Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring - Two Pianos Concert &amp; LectureJoin acclaimed pianists David Murray and Eileen Bown for a thrilling performance of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in its rarely heard arrangement for piano duet. Originally used in rehearsals for the ballet's infamous 1913 premiere, this version preserves the work's driving rhythmic intensity and harmonic daring while revealing new insights into Stravinsky's musical language. David and Eileen have been performing together since 1991, building a formidable reputation as a piano duo. They have given UK premieres, collaborated with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, and played as soloists in Carnival of the Animals. Their extensive experience includes work with Bishopwearmouth Choral Society, Hexham Abbey Festival Chorus, and Brinkburn Summer Music, as well as acclaimed recordings of Debussy, Fauré, Rimsky-Korsakov, Schubert, York Bowen, and Rachmaninov. Before the performance, David will provide a fascinating introduction, setting The Rite of Spring in its historical and musical context, exploring its bold harmonic language, rhythmic complexity, and the interplay between Russian folk elements and radical modernism.
