<h3>The National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme is a national-scale camera trap survey estimating population size and monitoring trends for hedgehogs, other mammals and ground-dwelling birds.</h3> This event will take place in person at ZSL's Huxley Lecture Theatre, and online via Zoom.The National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme (NHMP) was launched in 2023 by <a href="https://ptes.org/" title="https://ptes.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">People’s Trust for Endangered Species</a> and the <a href="https://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/" title="https://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">British Hedgehog Preservation Society</a>, in partnership with <a href="https://www.ntu.ac.uk/research" title="https://www.ntu.ac.uk/research" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nottingham Trent University</a>, <a href="/node/288" title="/node/288" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ZSL</a>, <a href="https://www.mammalweb.org/en/" title="https://www.mammalweb.org/en/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mammal Web</a>, <a href="/node/313" title="/node/313" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">London HogWatch</a> and <a href="https://www.durham.ac.uk/research/" title="https://www.durham.ac.uk/research/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Durham University</a>. The NHMP conducts crucial monitoring aiming to understand population sizes, and determine the threats our native species face, in order to guide effective conservation action.In this event, speakers will tell the story of the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme, from its inception and coordination, through to implementation and preliminary findings. Speakers will discuss how, using a range of AI tools and a wide network of citizen scientists, the large-scale survey sites were set up and the vast quantities of data continue to be processed. <h3>Attending this event</h3><ul><li>This Science and Conservation Event is free to attend but registration is required so we can monitor event numbers.</li><li>The event will feature talks from the speakers, followed by a Q&A discussion panel.
