An introduction to the Slide Rule; a forgotten technology.


This talk will introduce logarithms and then proceed to describe slide rules and explainsome of the more common scales to be found on them. The talk will then conclude bydiscussing a couple of special purpose slide rules.The talk will last around 90 minutes, with a brief break at around the half-way point.Participants will be able to download and print an A4-sized reproduction of a slide rule sothey can, if they wish, follow some of the explanations on their own rule.PLEASE NOTE: Participants will be sent the link to the virtual talk no later than two days before the event.
