Hello I'm Emily a potter and basketweaver and I'm passionate about sharing my skills with you! Making with our hands is so important; it makes us feel connected and present to materials and process and unleashes the creativity I believe is in everyone. I work my little garden shed in Surrey  and host workshops from various locations in and around London. Learn how to create with the coiling method, an ancient weaving technique

Onion Garden

Join me at The Onion Garden, a magical haven tucked down a side street in the centre of London and immerse yourself in a morning of nature and woven wonder!Inspired by the garden itself and the nest like forms of Spring time and Easter learn how to create your own basket using the coiled basket technique Coiling is typically a ‘foragers’ weaving style, an ancient and versatile technique that is used worldwide with the materials adapting to the native area.Spend the morning exploring the process with the outcome developing either as a functional form or a sculptural wall piece using a range of natural and coloured raffia and twine producing different textures and pattern into your weaving.You will be provided with a starter kit containing enough material to continue weaving at home as the addictive rhythm of the weave draws you in! I will also talk through the types of plants you could gather from your local area to continue weaving at home. If you would like to bring any extra materials to weave with (such as wool/fabric offcuts/plastic bags/natural materials) please feel free.There is a small cafe on site for you to keep refreshed during or after the workshop. You're also welcome to bring your own snacks to keep yourself nourished.
