David will be talking to students about his research into management as storytelling and the importance of organisational narratives in connecting strategy to operations, constructing customer service and providing ethical signposts.

David Collins holds degrees from the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde and Essex. He is presently Professor in Management at University of Northumbria. He holds Visiting Professorships at Staffordshire University and at the University of the Faroe Islands and is, furthermore, the founder and managing director of Gain Insight Ltd. A small consulting organization specialising in organizational storytelling. 

In a career spanning some thirty years David has published six books and around 60 refereed journal articles. In his research he has considered ‘organizational change’; ‘management fads and fashions’; ‘management’s gurus’; ‘the advice industry’ and ‘organizational storytelling’. His most recent publications include a monograph, which highlights affinities between management’s gurus and stand up comedians (‘Management Gurus: A Research Overview’) and a workbook on organizational storytelling, which builds upon his prior research and upon recent consulting work undertaken in partnership with Dr. Andrew Taylor (‘The Organizational Storytelling Workbook: How to harness this powerful management and communication tool’). Amongst other projects, David is presently completing a new book on culture, which will change quite fundamentally, the manner in which this subject is taught to students and shared with executive audiences.
