Synchronising knowledge, diversifying participation, and building resilience across mixed heritage sites

<a href="https://sxnch2020.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SXNCH2020</a> is a free, two-day, online symposium for knowledge exchange and networking on the conservation, management, and future prospects of heritage sites at the intersection of nature and culture. The aim is to bring together interest groups from heritage sites facing a similar set of challenges and build a network to find synergistic approaches and improve resilience. Petra, Jordan provides a model for a complex set of challenges faced by large, rock-hewn, UNESCO world heritage sites, which will build the theme of this first symposium. The two-day symposium is divided into three main events: Mon 7th Dec 2020, 9:30 -12:00 (UTC) keynotes and panel discussionMon 7th Dec 2020, 12:00 -14:00 (UTC) breakout rooms Tue 8th Dec 2020, 10:00 -14:00 (UTC) Wikipedia edit-a-thon.The keynotes will present overarching themes on the management of heritage sites at the intersection of nature and culture. The breakout rooms will facilitate contributions on more focussed themes such as the conservation of rock-hewn heritage, or digital solutions for value creation, and provide a space for knowledge exchange and networking. The edit-a-thon will produce digital content for a Wiki which links to the themes of the breakout rooms. The workshop will be guided by volunteers from Wikimedia (no previous coding experience is needed).SXNCH is part of a larger project funded by the <a href="https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">German Federal Foreign Office</a>: Concept Development for an Education and Training Programme in the Field of Cultural Heritage in Petra, Jordan. This <a href="https://www.imw.fraunhofer.de/en/research/innovation-acceptance/projects/PETRA.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">collaborative project</a> is led by the <a href="https://www.ibp.fraunhofer.de/en/business-units-and-products/cultural-heritage-research.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cultural Heritage Research Group</a> at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, the <a href="https://www.imw.fraunhofer.de/en.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy</a>, and the <a href="https://www.oxrbl.com/current-projects-1/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Oxford Resilient Buildings &amp; Landscapes Laboratory</a> at the University of Oxford. The main aim of the project is to develop a concept for an Education and Training Programme in the Field of Cultural Heritage in Petra, Jordan. In response to COVID-19 we are currently focusing on digital literacy and virtual networking.
