King’s Festival of Artificial Intelligence

The King's Festival of Artificial Intelligence is returning between Tuesday 21 & Saturday 25 May 2024, with a series of public events, including lectures, workshops and demonstrations, exploring artificial intelligence with researchers from across King's.

Artificial intelligence is seemingly everywhere. And so many bots look, sound, and act like us! From customer service, therapy, and podcast host bots to all-purpose tools like ChatGPT and AI companions that people fall in love with, human-like AI is a growing trend. While this technology has great utility, it also presents many risks.This talk will explore some of the main concerns and explain how we can manage them through the right approach to AI design—an approach that emphasises transparency.You do not need any prior knowledge of AI to enjoy this event. However, it may be of particular interest to those working in the responsible technology space, from entrepreneurs to professionals in education and medicine, as well as policymakers and ethicists concerned with AI’s societal implications.

<h3>Speaker</h3><a href="http://www.eselinger.org/" title="http://www.eselinger.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Evan Selinger</a> is a Professor of Philosophy at Rochester Institute of Technology. His extensive research and writing focus on the ethical and privacy dimensions of emerging technology. His new co-authored book, Move Slow and Upgrade, will be published by Cambridge University Press (CUP). CUP previously published his co-authored Re-Engineering Humanity and co-edited The Cambridge Handbook of Consumer Privacy. A strong advocate for public philosophy, Selinger is a contributing writer at The Boston Globe.

Running from Tuesday 20 May to Saturday 24 May, the free, five-day festival brings together a diverse line-up of experts to consider critical questions about artificial intelligence in the context of healthcare, education, sustainability, policy, and creativity.Festival events will take place across several King’s venues, so please check carefully where the event is taking place. Festival event times may be subject to change. Any changes will be communicated to attendees via Eventbrite emails.Please note, King's events are free, which means we routinely overbook to allow for no-shows and avoid empty seats. Admission is on a first come, first served basis, so please arrive in good time to avoid disappointment. We will not be able to admit those without tickets or latecomers.
