Congratulations! You, a first-time PI have been awarded £500K. What do you now??

<p>Professor Simon Capewell will lead a two-hour workshop on planning and managing projects for anybody who would like to improve their capabilities as PI. Professor Ruth Dundas will be on hand to provide additional insights. The workshop will provide a variety of topics including: </p><p>Pre-project planning</p><ul><li>Assembling the right team: steering group and executive team</li><li>Pulling together and delegation</li><li>Budgeting and resources</li><li>Timelines and milestones</li><li>Planning publications</li></ul><p>Managing the project</p><ul><li>Managing researchers and co-applicants</li><li>Maintaining momentum between meetings for co-applicants.</li><li>Ensuring work packages are on track</li><li>Managing the budget</li></ul><p><br></p>

<h4>Simon Capewell</h4><h4>Emeritus Professor in Public Health, University of Liverpool</h4>

<p>Simon has worked in public health for three decades, teaching, advising on policy, and researching the epidemiology and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), hence studies on inequalities, tobacco, alcohol, inactivity and, crucially, poor diet.</p><p>Simon’s personal outputs thus far include over 400 publications (Google H index 80), and some £30 million in total funding (over £5m as Principal Investigator).</p><p>Simon enjoys family time, walking &amp; gardening. He also greatly enjoys mentoring colleagues at all levels, helping them to overcome current challenges and fulfil their personal and professional potential.</p>
