A day packed full of practical business advice, confidence boosting tips and guidance on how to make the most of your illustration career.

Are you at the start of your career as an illustrator? You may be on a course, recently graduated or having a career shift to illustration. Whatever your story, this day-long online event is packed full of practical business advice, confidence boosting tips and guidance on how to make the most of your illustration career. Across four talks you'll learn the key things you need to have in place as a business, what your niche is, how to build career endurance and portfolio promotional advice. They'll be plenty of opportunities to ask our guest speakers questions, connect with others, take part in a drawing prompt activity and soak up early career story videos.Please bring drawing materials.There will be short breaks and a lunch break within the day - please see the agenda for more details.Please note: There will not be a recording of this event available to watch or listen back to. Agenda

The team will welcome you and provide an overview of the sessions before diving in. Each of the four sessions includes: A drawing prompt activity, a talk presented by guest speaker, an early career story video and a Q&A.

Welcome and Introduction

Discover how to lay down the basic building blocks of your illustration business and set achievable goals for the future. Derek Brazell, is a former illustrator, the AOI Publications & Membership Manager, ethical advisor and co-author of Becoming A Successful Illustrator.

Session #1 Being a business

Break

Guidance on career paths, where you fit in, and finding your way to particular areas of the illustration and wider creative industry. Brittany Freeman is the AOI Membership Advisor advising members on any query related to their illustration career, and a former Illustration and Animation Agent, having worked at London based agencies.

Session #2 Finding your niche

Lunch Break

Advice on longevity via productivity, focus, learning and confidence, while staying sane and energised. Sarah Morris is also a former illustration Agent and AOI Membership Manager, overseeing and nurturing the Membership department, supporting members and the AOI team.

Session #3 Building career endurance

Learn how to maximise value from your portfolio projects and how to present them to clients in an online world. Ciara Phelan is a collage illustrator and co-founder of artist agency Grand Matter, also one of the founding forces behind Agents for Change. 

Session #4 Portfolio guidance
