Being Human - Levi Tafari

Writing on the Wallis a dynamic, Liverpool-based community organisation that coordinates projects and events that celebrate writing in all its forms. We work with a broad and inclusive definition of writing that embraces literature, creative writing, journalism and non-fiction, poetry, songwriting, and storytelling. Writing on the Wall works with local, national and international writers whose work provokes controversy and debate. We work with all of Liverpool’s communities to promote and celebrate individual and collective creativity.

Join us for a special performance by internationally acclaimed poet and urban griot Levi Tafari, as he performs from his new powerful new collection, Being Human. Levi, who graced the stage at the very first WoWFest, has been a longstanding collaborator, friend and ambassador for Writing on the Wall, inspiring audiences with his unique blend of rhythm, wisdom, and storytelling. In this exciting performance, Levi will explore themes of identity, humanity, and resilience, offering thought-provoking insights. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a truly dynamic artist who has helped shape the cultural landscape of Liverpool and beyond. Levi Tafari’s Being Human is more than just poetry—it’s a celebration of the human spirit. Levi Tafari is an Urban Griot, the griot being a 'traditional consciousness raiser, storyteller, newscaster and political agitator.' Born and raised in Liverpool by Jamaican parents, Levi became a dub performance poet, his words moving to a strong reggae beat in our local theatres, schools and museums, as well as overseas. He has appeared in television programmes including Blue Peter and Grange Hill, and made a well-received film about Rastafarianism for BBC’s Everyman programme entitled The Road to Zion. Aside from this, Levi runs creative writing workshops in prisons, schools and universities and has become a pillar of the L8 community, merited with Liverpool's Citizen of Honour in 2023. Levi has collaborated on numerous project with Writing on the Wall including the heritage project 'Great War to Race Riots', The Princes Boulevard STEPS project. In partnership with: Libraries, Museums and Galleries University of Liverpool.
