<h3>Artists in Conversation: Sohaila Baluch and Claire Sunho Lee</h3> Step into an intimate conversation with artists Claire Sunho Lee and Sohaila Baluch, joined by curator Kahyun Lee, as they delve into the ideas behind In Visible Body.Through photography, installation and performance, both artists explore how the body holds memory, carries trauma, and resists (in)visibility. Drawing on personal and collective lived experiences and interdisciplinary approaches, they consider the body as a living archive.This informal discussion offers a chance to hear directly from the artists about their creative processes, the stories behind their works, and the shared questions that shaped the exhibition. Audience questions are warmly welcomed.

<h3>(In)visible Body 26 April 2025 – 1 May 2025</h3><h3> </h3><h4>Exhibition Overview</h4> (In)visible Body brings together artworks that use the body as a medium to explore memory, trauma and identity. Through photography, installation and performance, the exhibition reflects on how lived experience is carried, altered, and shared through the body. It considers how bodies act as repositories of personal and collective histories, and how they give form to what is often unseen or forgotten. The exhibition centres on the work of Sohaila Baluch and Claire Sunho Lee. Both artists draw on embodied memory to question the limits of visibility and examine how memories are embedded in the skin, gestures and movements.Sohaila Baluch's interdisciplinary practice combines embodied, performative and autoethnographic approaches. Informed by feminist strategies, Baluch challenges established and traditional narratives that exclude racialised bodies. Drawing from lived experience, she positions the brown female body as a living archive through which she explores emergent forms of (un)belonging among female diaspora communities and conditions of (in)visibility. Through repeated dance gestures situated in domestic environments, she constructs a space of resonance, inviting viewers to embody intergenerational memory.Claire Sunho Lee’s photography reflects on the afterlife of trauma marked on the body and the flesh. Lee’s work is shaped by the belated discovery that she had leukaemia as a child—an illness she only came to know about later in life. Drawing from involuntary flashbacks and fragmented childhood memories of the illness, Lee recreates images of a staged body or scene, caught in a state of stillness and interruption. Her work traces the fragility of memory, its relentless reconstruction, and the complex ways in which past and present intersect in one’s body.(In)visible Body explores how the body operates as a dynamic site of temporal convergence, where memory is not merely preserved but continually reconstituted through physical and sensory experience. Through the practices of Baluch and Lee, the exhibition foregrounds how the body becomes a site of both resistance and remembrance, where meaning is constantly negotiated across time and space.

<h3>Artists</h3><h4> </h4>Sohaila BaluchSohaila Baluch is an interdisciplinary artist and writer who combines embodied, performative and autoethnographic research methods within a hybrid art practice. Drawing from lived experience, she positions the brown female body as a living archive to analyse emergent forms of (un)belonging among female diaspora communities and conditions of (in)visibility. Sohaila is a PhD Candidate at the RCA, London and LAHP/AHRC Scholarship recipient. Recent performances have been staged at Bishopsgate Institute, London; Beaconsfield Gallery, London; Birkbeck Cinema and the Hangar Gallery, London. Her moving image work, kwhaish (2024) was developed under the mentorship of the Derek Jarman Lab and generously funded by LAHP. Claire Sunho LeeClaire Sunho Lee’s Tell Me What I’m Remembering (2021 - ongoing) engages with seeing various meanings within one “reality” by questioning acceptable norms. She sees “normal” as what one knows based on the perspective(s) they have rather than being defined in one way or another. Through the means of rules, logic, and algorithms, she examines psychological complications, human conditions, trauma, and more.Claire received her BFA degree in Photography and Imaging from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University in 2017 and received her MA degree in Photography from the Royal College of Art in 2021. Her recent achievements include a group exhibition with Photographic Exploration Project, Noorderlicht Photo Festival, V.O Curations and Cromwell Place, features on ArtDoc Photography Magazine, TOFU Magazine, VOGUE Italia and Musée Magazine, grants from the Photoworks x MPB R&amp;D Seed Grants, Grand Prix from IMA-Next, and shortlist from Lumen Prize. She recently gave artist talks at Southbank Centre hosted by Arts &amp; Health Hub and online hosted by Bethlem Gallery. Claire is currently a fellow of the Jacob Fabrikant Creative Fellowship in Health Humanities 2025/2026 at UCL.

<h4>it's a local collective</h4> It’s a local collective is a London based art/architectural collective about creating objects/buildings that bring people together. The studio works at the intersection of architecture, art, and anthropology, delivering architectural installations, exhibition designs and public programmes. From social furniture for Network Rail to a contemporary bath house for Malin+Goetz, the studio is interested in domesticating public spaces to prioritise social integration and well-being.The gallery of it’s a local collective is housed in a Georgian Townhouse in Bloomsbury, London. Specialising in contemporary art with an emphasis on translating research through art, its curatorial projects bring together a unique portfolio of emerging and established contemporary artists, such as Yushi Li, Kechun Zhang, Yuxiao Ran, and Jia Xi Li among others. The studio’s projects have been featured in Architects’ Journal, Archdaily, Elle Decor, Stir, Wallpaper* and more.
