Understanding Communication Differences (North/Central Manchester)

Manchester Parent Carer Forum (MPCF formerly PACT) is funded by the Department for Education and aims to work in partnership with Manchester City Council, Health and Education settings to shape and influence services, to ensure they are fit for purpose and meet the needs of disabled children, young people and their families living in Manchester.MPCF understands the day to day challenges faced by parent-carers, as we are parent-carers too. The aim of MPCF is to give parent-carers a voice and to make their views heard in the improvement of services for our children.

This workshop aims to impart parents with language and communication strategies to use with their children.

13 Haverford St

This session is aimed at parents/carers of PRIMARY and SECONDARY school-aged children. Other sessions in North and South Manchester are available also**The workshop will take place at the Link Community Room located at the rear of Armitage Primary School - look out for the large blue gate located next to number: 13 Haverford Street M12 5HX** This workshop is led by a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in the Social Communication Pathway and will provide the opportunity to:<ul><li>Develop your understanding of neurodiversity and communication..</li><li>Consider different preferences and characteristics of communication.</li><li>Think about the factors that can impact on communication.</li><li>Consider your own communication.</li><li>Think about environmental adjustments to support your child to communicate more easily.</li><li>Hear about the experiences of other families and share your own experiences if you wish.</li></ul>Biscuits, tea and coffee will be provided.If you need an interpreter to access the session, please email <a href="mailto:ManchesterSCP.Workshops@mft.nhs.uk" title="mailto:ManchesterSCP.Workshops@mft.nhs.uk" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ManchesterSCP.Workshops@mft.nhs.uk</a> with at least a week’s notice before the session. Each session can only cater for one interpreter so please contact the SCP team ASAP if you require one.
