PAS is holding a series of online roundtables on the challenges and risk mitigation for local plan production in the current plans system

We recently hosted a webinar (13th May) to kick off the Local Plan Leader network and learn more about how local plan leaders are working towards hitting a December 2026 deadline. Some analysis of councils LDS data which shows that:<ul><li>around 40% of all LPAs are preparing plans within the current system</li><li>around 50 councils are all going to be submitting between Oct – Dec 2026; which is more plans in one quarter than PINs normally handle in a year!</li><li>around 20 councils are planning a 6months or less turn around between Reg18 and Reg19 stages!</li><li>around 1/3 of councils aiming for now to December 2026 anticipate redoing their LDS within the next 3months.</li></ul> Now PAS is holding a series of online roundtables on the challenges and risk mitigation for local plan production in the current plans system. This is an opportunity for participants to explore the issues impacting their plan preparation timescales to achieving submission before December 2026 and to hear from other councils on how they are navigating these challenges and mitigating risks. Local planning teams are doing a bit of everything: prepping early, pulling in help, getting Members onboard, and staying nimble. The uncertainty is still there – but there’s clearly a lot of thoughtful, proactive work going on behind the scenes. These sessions are aimed at local plan leaders and officers in planning teams who are intending to submit their local plan by December 2026 under the current plans system. The sessions are grouped regionally, and we encourage you to sign-up for the right region. These roundtables are for local government only so don’t forget to sign-up with your ‘gov.uk’ email address.
