The Didsbury Summer Open, at the Didsbury Parsonage, is a new exhibition of work by artists - amateur and professional - from across Greater Manchester, on 4th-20th July.

A super chance to learn about the process of writing a story, with experienced writer Rachel Weld. This 2-hour workshop will introduce you to ways you can generate ideas, explore themes and develop flash stories.Simply bring an open mind, your notebook and a pen. No need to have an idea - it's all about seeing where the day takes you.A bit about Rachel - Rachel has written for BBC Philharmonic broadcasts, and contributed to Words and Music and Essential Classics for BBC Radio 3.Publishing credits include pieces in Litro (shortlisted), Bath Flash Fiction Award (longlisted), Pure Slush, and The Propelling Pencil (shortlisted). She has completed her first novel, and is now working on a novella-in-flash. Rachel’s exploration of the zuihitsu form whilst on a creative residency in Finland has led to entwining spoken word and music in performance for the Chamber.nq series in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.Confirmation of where to be when will be emailed 48 hours before the event.This event is a 'pop-up event' in association with Didsbury Arts Festival. Your money will go towards ensuring fair payment to our expert artist or practitioner and funding for social arts programmes with disadvantgaed children at schools in Didsbury, Burnage and Withington.The classes we are running alongside a Didsbury Summer Open Exhibition of art that will be on display 4th - 20th July. Free entry to the public. There will also be free activities for children running over the duration of the Summer Open.
