Overview

One-day and two-day courses in biomimetic restorative dentistry for dentists and dental therapists.

Thes one-day and two-day, in-person courses are open to clinicians who are interested in learning foundation and advanced techniques in biomimetic restorative dentistry. Day 1/Level 1 is suitable for dental therapists and dentists; Day 2/Level 2 is suitable for dentists only.

The Level 1 course gives dental clinicians a practical, clinically focused introduction to biomimetics. You'll learn about assessment, preparation design, bonding to dentine and stress-reduced direct composite techniques.

The Level 2 course, for dentists only, covers indirect and complex case applications of biomimetic restorative dentistry. Level 2 builds on everything you learned on the Level 1 course with semi-direct techniques, laboratory communication, bonding protocols and live indirect procedures.

Tickets available for Level 1 (£595 for dentists, £495 for dental therapists), Level 2 (£595 for dentists only) and for a comined course (2-days, £1,195 for dentists only). A 10% deposit is required to secure your place. Payment for the balance can be made via BACS (details to be provided).

What's Included

  • Dedicated Level 1 and Level 2 course booklets
  • Hands-on practical sessions using real teeth
  • Live biomimetic restorations via big screen & microscope
  • Lunches and refreshments
  • Post-course WhatsApp support
  • CPD certificates for Level 1 and Level 2 as relevant

Level 1 Overview - Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry Foundations

Level 1 is suitable for dentists and for dental therapists. It focuses on restoring structurally compromised posterior teeth using adhesive, defect-driven principles.

We cover:

  • Diagnosis of caries and fracture
  • Occlusal considerations
  • Rubber dam tips
  • Cavity design based on remaining tooth structure
  • Immediate dentine sealing
  • Resin coating
  • Deep margin elevation
  • Fibre reinforcement
  • Stress-reduced composite layering

The day concludes with a live Class II composite restoration shown on a big screen.

Level 2 Overview - Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry Indirect & Complex Cases

Level 2 is suitable for dentists, and focuses on the management of heavily restored and structurally compromised teeth requiring indirect or semi-direct restorations.

We cover:

  • Diagnosis of caries and fracture
  • Retention versus resistance form in the adhesive era
  • Defect-driven preparation design
  • Indications for indirect vs semi-direct restorations
  • Immediate dentine sealing and resin coating in indirect cases
  • Deep margin elevation
  • Biobase and core build-up strategies
  • Ceramic versus composite material selection
  • Laboratory communication
  • Adhesive bonding and luting protocols
  • Finishing and polishing

Delegates observe a live indirect onlay preparation followed by an Emax overlay fit.

Level 1 Course Objectives

To equip delegates with advanced skills in performing long-lasting composite restorations, focusing on the principles of biomimetic dentistry to enhance clinical outcomes.

To provide hands-on training in caries and fracture removal, optimal dentine bonding, Ribbond application and photography, and the correct application of materials for optimal function and aesthetics.

To empower clinicians with the knowledge to assess structurally compromised teeth and know what can be restored directly, and what teeth would benefit from indirect restorations.

To provide valuable shadowing opportunities where delegates can observe real-time composite restoration procedures, learning from experienced practitioners.

Level 2 Course Objectives

To advance delegates’ skills in managing complex biomimetic restorations, including restoring deep cracks and high C-factor areas, deep margin elevation techniques, and onlay and overlay preparation methods.

To offer practical experience through semi-direct techniques on patient models and live observation of onlay preparations and Emax overlay bonding, demonstrating real-world application of biomimetic principles.

To empower delegates with the confidence and competence to implement advanced biomimetic techniques in their own clinical practice.

Additional Details

Participants will have the opportunity to spend time with Amber Aplin, course lead, in an open Q&A session as well as to observe live clinical sessions. This will reinforce the course’s teachings and give delegates the confidence to implement these techniques with their own patients and practices.
