Rose Rylands will be helping us to explore 'Re-enchanting our vocabulary, expanding code and consciousness'.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who wishes to enter into a discourse about erasure of language in relation to the living world and our fellow creatures, to reclaim expansive descriptive ability, focussing on ecology, imagination and re envisioning. The language and terms we have come to use, simplification or dullness of description, have made the world appear like a colouring-in book that contains only outlines in black and white. A blandscape of language. We will attempt to discover and use language that enhances our capacity to see the natural world as a multihued marvel, to add colour, texture and depth of description. This retrieval is essential at this time. We can begin to replace the loss of complexity, colour, lyricism and wonderment through a glossary of expression.Earth, myth and psyche are interconnected. As we degrade landscapes and lose millions of other beings to extinction, we lose the song of language. As technological terms replace a lilting evocation, our code becomes increasingly restricted, until now we operate without even realising it, a tragically dumbed down vocabulary. Our landscapes have become diminished physically and descriptively, lacking a word-hoard that evokes every nuanced detail, that brings them alive as places of intricate detail. How do we enter into a relationship withthe more than human world around us as a living, enchanted, multidimensional, elemental and interconnected being, without the ability to call upon diversity of expression and invocation. As we shrink ever further into the material, consumer based culture that has robbed both us and the Earth of our light, how do we rewild our language and use the words that bring alive once again the imaginal and the ecstatic, to enhance and deepen our capacities to relate to the living world around us.And thereby begin to heal wounds, shifting our separate selves back into the one great tapestry of life, into communion and care. I will give a talk on this subject and then invite participants into breakout rooms (or smaller groups if these workshops are done in person), given words, phrases, ideas to discuss. We will be encouraged to observe the relationship between words and attitude, what is used by the rational mind, how the imagination seeks to express itself, where we dismiss or justify, overlook or miss the terms that might bring us into deeper relationship with both visible and invisible qualities of nature.Questions from the floor and a series of small group discussions will structure the workshop. A word hoard will be established that may plant the seeds of a greater growing, a return to praise giving and thanksgiving and a new way of looking at every living thing in the world around us, every time we step outside. This is workshop that will hopefully benefit all practitioners seeking ways to connect both themsleves and others with a more eco centred, healing and holistic approach to life, earth, psyche and the times we are in.About the TrainerRose Rylands is a storyteller and walking guide based where she grew up on the East Coast at Whitby. Her mission is to connect people to the earth as a place of magic, mystery and meaning, to arrest ongoing harm to both ourselves and the natural world.

“My passion is to connect people with the earth as a place of mystery, meaning and magic through story. I suppose I am a sort of cultural custodian of my own small space and beloved bit of earth.”
