Sharing from the landmark artistic intervention by the IN/Visible National Disabled Women's Arts Collective at MIMA

We are delighted to bring you videos of our performances at our pioneering takeover of Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA) with accompanying artists talking about their work.The IN/Visible National Disabled Women's Arts Collective came together during the Covid lockdowns, initially through some ad hoc online workshops, but quickly established an incredible weekly online studio where artists would create work together in real time. The Collective has successfully held a series of online exhibitions, created and curated an in-person gallery exhibition All the Women We Could Have Been was highly successful exhibiting at ARC Stockton and Arts Depot London, and most recently worked in close collaboration with MIMA.Whilst examining a sustainable working model for older disabled women artists who often disappear from the landscape, the Collective wanted to explore community building and share the stories, lives and experiences of disabled women involved in art and activism.Membership of the collective has a combined life experience of over 500 years between them to bring to their work, and working in inter-disciplinary formats, inspired by the cross-fertilisation of working together.The Collective delivered workshops to over 500 people, created an original zine publication about the artists and the inspiration for the work shared, hosted a pop-up exhibition at MIMA and a ground-breaking day of takeover performance interventions throughout the building.Our online events coincide with the launch of a guide about the event, and are a sharing of the performances and a chance to meet the artists.
