The Giant Walk for Myisrael

Join us on 14th September 2025 for a unique walking challenge along the Thames Path - a full marathon distance charity fundraiser for Myisrael, organised by Regenesis Events CIC, a specialist endurance walking non-profit.

This is a supported walk with no incline, comprising four sections with a picnic (included) lunchstop halfway. This is also the start point for the entry level 21km Half Marathon suitable for teens.

The day starts in NW London with a coach ride to the start point in Berkshire. We will be supported all day by the coach where you can store belongings and change kit. The coach will have a WC on board and will meet walkers several times during the day.

Finish times are expected to be c.10 hours allowing for rest stops and lunch.

For those new to endurance walking, the half marathon supports walkers on the second part of the day and where young walkers can join in the afternoon. The final few km is available for families to meet up and finish together at the medal ceremony.

The event will be supported by experienced walkers and leaders from the Mountain Training Association with specialist outdoor first aid and endurance walking experience. Every group will have a leader and a mentor allocated to it who will remain in contact with Event Control.

Myisrael will provide you with a fundraising page once you have signed up.

A medical questionnaire will be circulated, and there may be group transport arranged to the drop off point subject to demand. A more detailed route, GPX, training tips, kit list and event information will be sent in advance of the event.

Frequently asked questions

What's included?

Coach transport, full day support, finishers medal, lunch (snack box with 3 options) and water/snacks all day.

How do I make sure I walk with friends?

The best way to ensure you walk with your friends is to enter as a group. Give your team a name and let us know on your medical questionnaire that you'd like to walk together (subject to maximum group size).

How will the Half Marathon be organised?

Those walking 21km will join the main walking group at the lunch rest stop, and set off in the afternoon together. This is an ideal time for novice hikers or family members (secondary school age upwards) to join you. This meeting point will be near a tube.

How fit do I have to be?

This is an endurance walk, and you will need to prepare for it. We ask that you have a good basic fitness and undertake some training in the run-up to the event. A good rule of thumb is that you should have completed at least one 20km training walk in the shoes you plan to wear on the day.

Can I be of help?

You must have sufficient walking experience or qualifications to be a mentor. Please email the organisers if you would like to be part of the team of volunteers on the day. You will also be given a discount code for you to share with friends.

Is it a race?

We discourage treating this event as a race, but you are welcome to time yourself. Groups will be formed with similarly able walkers, and you can switch groups at check points if needed. There is no chip timing.

What happens if I am too slow?

There are check points at the rest stops along the route, where the vehicle will be waiting. If any walker is struggling to meet time checks, you may be asked to either leapfrog forwards to the next point, or remain in the vehicle. These check points aim to ensure a maximum10 hour completion time.

Is there a minimum fundraising target?

We want this to be an inclusive event, so there is no minimum fundraising target. Myisrael expects that you will use your best endeavours to fundraise on their behalf. A fundraising pack will be circulated.

Can I raise funds for another charity?

No, this is a fundraising event for Myisrael. Please contact info@giantwalk.org for other private events.

How will the donations be used?

The money you raise will be used to fund vital programming for vulnerable children and adults at Myisrael’s causes including: emergency repairs to damaged homes, trauma therapy, bereavement counselling, mental health support, financial relief and support for families/individuals in crisis.

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a no quibble cancellation policy up to 7 days before the event, and your entry fee will be returned in full minus any platform or card fees deducted. Once inside the 7 day period, no refunds are available but you can transfer onto a future event.

Can I bring my dog?

No, but your dog will enjoy training with you in preparation for the event over shorter distances.

What if I need the loo?

WCs along the route will be marked out in the event guide, and group mentors will know where they are. Our VIP vehicle support will also have a WC on board.

How will I navigate the route?

A GPX (satnav) file will be available. Group mentors and leaders will have access to this, and although the route is pretty straightforward, key signposts will be on site at junctions. All mentors will have GPS and radio support from Event Control.

Can I bring my children?

Young walkers are welcome, but must be of secondary school age and physically fit. Please note that mentors will not act in loco parentis, so you remain responsible for your children at all times. Participants under the age of 16 are only permitted to take part in the Half Marathon.

Where can I meet my family or friends at the end?

The walk ends outside Hampton Court Palace. We will also be passing venues such as bridges and tube stations where you can meet your family and finish together.

Is there transport to the starting point?

Transport from a NW London venue (with parking) to the starting point on the Thames Path is included and the coach will stay with us all day for support before returning you to your cars. Alternatively you can invite your family to join you at the finish area.

Please can I see your T&Cs, Risk Assessment or Insurance?

These are available upon request. Please email info@giantwalk.org

Security

This is a private event, and you must dress for hiking only. The Police and CST will be made aware of the event. Locations and ticket sales will be kept on a private setting. This is not a political or religious fundraiser.

Any other tips?

Avoid denim, and if possible cotton. Plan to combine up to 4 layers. Use hand gel on your feet in the days before the event to avoid blisters. Keep your toenails trimmed, and don't wear jewellery on your fingers if your hands swell on long walks.

Boots or trainers?

Definitely not gym or fashion trainers. Heavy walking boots are not necessarily required as all the terrain is level and on footpaths. A good running trainer, trail shoe or lightweight walking boots are ideal.
