A conversation about Berlin-born photographer Tom Blau and his agency Camera Press

Of Hungarian-Jewish parentage, photographer <a href="https://www.camerapress.com/photographers/archive-photographers/tom-blau" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tom Blau</a> was born and raised in Berlin. He left Nazi Germany in 1935 and moved to London where he worked as a freelance photo researcher before setting up the international photo library Pictorial Press on behalf of an American investor. After becoming a British citizen in 1947, Tom founded his own photographic agency, <a href="https://www.camerapress.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Camera Press</a>, which remains family-owned to this day.From the very beginning Tom established a reputation for representing some of the greatest names in photography. He was also a renowned portrait photographer of major political figures, musicians and film stars himself.Artist <a href="http://www.emmablau.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Emma Blau</a>, Tom Blau’s granddaughter, will be in conversation with curator <a href="https://juliegrahame.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Julie Grahame</a> about Tom’s remarkable life and work; his son, photographer Jon Blau; and Emma’s own career in the photographic arts. Emma is a celebrated photographic artist and curator whose work is held in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London as well as being exhibited internationally and in the UK. She is a co-owner of Camera Press and directed and produced the documentary Camera Press at 70 : A Lifetime In Pictures made to celebrate their platinum anniversary which can be viewed <a href="https://vimeo.com/244521511" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a>. Julie is a photographic consultant and curator and the senior representative for the Estate of Yousuf Karsh, managing licensing in North America in association with Camera Press as well as running the <a href="https://karsh.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Karsh website</a> and social media.
