Delve into the percussive rhythms of Scottish Step Dance with with this Come &amp; Try workshop led by dancer, Sophie Stephenson! 

The Inverness Music Festival is excited to bring you this workshop, which is suitable for all ages, step dancing is a fun and active way to engage with traditional music. In this online class you can learn strathspey, jig and reel steps, from the convenience of your own home! Sophie Stephenson is a dance artist, teacher and performer from Fort Augustus. Sophie specialises in a close to the floor style of percussive step dance which has origins in Scotland, although the tradition was carried forward by Scottish emigrant communities in Eastern Canada. Sophie is particularly interested in the rhythmical relationships between language, music, song and dance and seeks to explore and expand the boundaries of traditional dance across genres within performance, theatre, film and eduction. Her passion for the traditional arts is rooted in a Highland upbringing and participation in cèilidh dances, music sessions and local fèisean from a young age. Sophie has performed and taught at festivals throughout Scotland and internationally with artists including Dàimh, Calum Stewart and Capercaillie.
