EdTech Demonstrators, Safeguarding using the Google Admin panel

Brough Community Primary School

Is your online safeguarding effective? A workshop on how schools can ensure sound safeguarding using the Google Admin Panel.

Led by Phil Cooper, Head Teacher and Google Educator. Phil has worked with G-Suite and Google Classroom for 6 years now. Brough Community Primary School is one of only a small number of Google Reference Schools in UK. As an EdTech Demonstrator school, Phil has supported schools all over the Northwest, allowing them to improve their online learning and remote education provision, specialising in the Google platform. The webinar will focus on some key safeguarding features of the Google Admin Panel. It is aimed at users with 'Superuser' status and ideally, you will come to the debinar, with your Admin Panel open and keen to make changes to it there and then! Some of the things we will look at are:

Orgnisational units and turning apps on and off between them.

Safest settings for Google Meet, including ensuring pupils/students cannot record Meets and launch their own Meets!

Setting YouTube to ensure children can only view videos or channels approved by staff.

Safe settings for Google searching.

Phil will go on to demonstrate some of the functions that allow for much easier access to apps and websites and also to ensure continuity of presentation when children sign into their accounts. This will include:

Setting up your bespoke bookmarks bar.

Defaults for startup pages and new tab URLs.

Pre-populated login details for managed Chromebooks.

Blocking and whitelisting websites.

Adding extensions and apps globally to accounts.

With any spare time, Phil will showcase some of the simple apps that have the most effect alongside Google's core apps and answer any questions posed to him. Please note the webinar link will be open from 3.30 until 3.45 to give everyone time to get online and connect with the webinar. Admission after 3.45 pm cannot be guaranteed. You do not need to have your camera switched on during the webinar and we politely request that you have your microphone turned off unless coming in to ask questions. The online chat will be available for more feedback.
