Enabling Availability for Surface Ship Structures through Digital Twins
Attend this technical lecture on Enabling Availability for Surface Ship Structures through Digital Twins presented by Alysson Mondoro (NSWC)
Digital twins, smart ships, structural health monitoring systems and the like have emerged as the leading edge of technology to enable increased availability and operability of vessels. However, differing perceptions of objectives and performance assessment can lead to a miscommunication of expectations and misalignment of requirements. Furthermore, for some, the trustworthiness of data is assumed, while others are aware that there are quality assurance measures that must be taken. In such a case, the digital twin delivered may not be what it needs to be. This discussion paper aims to highlight the need to establish clear objectives, articulate and embrace risk tolerance, ensure data quality, and establish clear requirements documents.
