Join this Fierce Calm workshop with Anjali Rao to co-create a culture of inclusion, equity, ally-ship &amp; justice for a vibrant Yoga community

We live in an increasingly complex and multi cultural world, with diversity along ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, language, religious lines and so on.In this NON-PROFIT fundraising workshop we will delve into our cultural affiliations and explore how culture influences every facet of our lives and manifests in Yoga spaces.All profits support our outreach program providing specialist trauma informed yoga to the marginalised and minority groups.Ignorance and denial of these differences can create misunderstandings, perpetuate racial and social harm and cause further division. Integrating principles and concepts from Sociology and Communication Studies, with concepts from Yoga Philosophy, the workshop aims to share: a) Reflection and insight into how Culture can manifest in Yoga spaces and thus perhaps without our conscious awareness, shapes our learning, teaching and practice of Yoga. b) How to observe and course correct our internalized cognitive shortcuts that can result in misunderstanding/miscommunication or interpersonal conflict with the “other” c) Learn about individual and collective roles, personal identity, power and privilege d) Co create a culture of inclusion, equity and justice to form true allyship and friendships for a vibrant Yoga community

Anjali Rao is a yoga teacher, social justice activist, community organizer, multi-cultural training specialist and a Cancer survivor. She is an Indian American immigrant from Bangalore, India, based in California. Her work explores Yoga Philosophy and History, integrating marginalized voices using storytelling, imagery and poetry. She centers intersectionality and critical thinking, connection and diversity of perspectives in her approach to sharing this ancestral lineage. As a multi cultural trainer, she has worked with large technology corporations such as Intel, Cisco, Intuit, on Power, Communication and Culture, and has collaborated with several non profits for Domestic Violence and Cancer survivors in the Bay Area. Being diagnosed at 37 for early-stage Breast cancer, and recovery for multiple surgeries brought her to her first Yoga-Asana class. She knew by the end of the first class that this practice would change her life in big ways. Her passion is to share this alchemical practice and philosophy with people across ages, genders and abilities. Growing up in India, Karma and Bhakti Yoga was a way of life; thus, community service, or Seva, and chanting is a part of her Yoga practice and teaching philosophy. She co-facilitates Mindfully Just, a program integrating Social Justice and Yoga, is a part of teacher training faculty, conducts workshops and is a speaker at Wellness Conferences. She serves on the Board for HERS Breast Cancer Foundation, a non profit that helps survivors and those going through treatment regardless of financial status. She is a lifelong student of Indian Classical Dance, a sucker for puppies, loves dark chocolate, the ocean and old trees.
