Sound & Movement Sanctuary (SMS) is an initiative created by Devaki Thomas, in 2020, located between SE London, UK and now the Yukon, Canada.  SMS collates her years of experience in Movement Psychotherapy, Therapeutic Hatha Yoga, Festival Directing, Music to Heal & Dance to Connect. Started in response to the pandemic and subsequent lack of connection. Events & sessions in movement and sound have  received many positive reviews bringing participants connection, release, relaxation, healing and grounding.

Rhythm &amp; Voice...Drum &amp; Sing...Get it ALL OUT!!!! Welcome to Sound &amp; Movement Sanctuary&#x27;s Spring Series! This vibrant 8-week, 1.5 hour session uses body-percussion, hand-drums, voice &amp; breath-work to discover your natural rhythmic &amp; vocal expressions. Create &amp; learn simple songs and rhythmic patterns. Come out of your mind and into your body in a connecting environment aimed at fostering togetherness, well-being, joy and expression through the medium of rhythm and voice. Yes you can make rhythms and sing at the same time! Devaki, an award-winning musician, who has played drums, percussion and vocals internationally for 30 years, will guide you through an easy natural process to learn your body&#x27;s way of expressing sounds using foot stomping, clapping, simple percussion using house-hold products like spoons and bottles. If you have drums, shakers or any other percussion instruments you can use these too! Thursdays 8 - 9.30pm GMT, 12 - 1.30pm PST, 1 April &gt; 20 May, 2021You can join any time and 1st session is free! In 2020 she graduated with an MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapist from Goldsmiths, University of London. With a lifetime in the arts as a musician with award-winning bands, a director of international music festivals and art centres, founder of an Indian dance school, head of marketing &amp; creative programming for top UK arts organizations she is now dedicating her life to help people through body movement and sound explorations.She has worked with clients ranging in age from 5 to 65 years and brings a strong sense of empathy and passion for helping clients understand and express themselves to enable more self-compassion and self-reliance.She believes everyone has the capacity to move through places of trauma held in the body by re-building trust within the therapeutic relationship and using the body to express difficult emotions.
