COVID-19 Vaccination for Pregnant Women & their Health Professionals

In 2019, University of Birmingham obtained the designation ofWorld Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Global Women’s Healthfor its research supporting WHO’s programmes on maternal and perinatal health.Located within theInstitute of Metabolism and Systems Research (IMSR), the collaborating centre undertakes cutting edge translational scientific research, addressing the health needs of pregnant women and newborns in low- and middle-income countries, and globally.As part of this work, we support the relevant WHO programmes by providing expertise in evidence synthesis, clinical trials, maintaining international pregnancy databases, and through capacity building activities.Elly Charityworks to promote and protect women’s health in the UK and internationally by training and educating healthcare workers in how to provide optimal care during pregnancy and childbirth. It supports research excellence in women’s health with a focus on accelerating the application of research into healthcare environments. It became a Registered Charity in 2020.

<h2>Information for women and the obstetric community about the risks and benefits of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy </h2><p>As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout takes place this is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about vaccination from international expert Prof Paul T. Heath and understand how it relates to women wanting to get pregnant, already pregnant or breastfeeding. 
</p><p>We will share experiences of vaccination amongst women’s health professionals with Dr Gloria Rowland MBE including low vaccine uptake in certain groups and the range of beliefs from health professionals. Dr Rehan Khan will explore health inequalities in access to the vaccine and share what resources are currently available to help the obstetric community and women themselves. 
</p><p>This is an opportunity to get an evidence based perspective and a chance for you to ask questions from experts with first hand experience.

</h3><p>Chair: <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/staff/profiles/metabolism-systems/Thangaratinam-Shakila.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>Prof Shakila Thangaratinam </strong></a><strong>i</strong>s the co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Global Women's Health at the University of Birmingham.
</p><ul><li><strong>Prof Paul T. Heath</strong> works at the Vaccine Institute, St George's, University of London and is Chief Investigator of the UK Novavax Vaccine Trial.
</li><li><strong>Dr Gloria Rowland MBE i</strong>s Chief nurse at South West London Health and Care Partnership and previously Director of Midwifery at Barts Health NHS Trust, the country’s largest maternity service. 
</li><li><strong>Mr Rehan Khan </strong>is a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, specialist in Maternal Medicine, and Director of Medical Education at Royal London and Mile End Hospitals.
