Learners will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to actively promote positive mental health in the workplace

It is estimated that in the past week 1 in 6 people experienced a common mental health problem.Research studies provide strong evidence that companies with high levels of mental health awareness are more successful. According to research by University of Warwick, addressing wellbeing at work increases productivity by up to 12%.During this 2 day course, learners will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to actively promote positive mental health in the workplaceThis qualification is for people who want to :<ul><li>raise their awareness of the signs and symptoms associated with mental health problems both related to the workplace and in the general public</li><li>be able to actively listen and feel confident to have a conversation with with individuals suffering potential mental ill-health</li><li>Be able to assist with policy writing and risk assessments for mental health in the workplace</li><li>Direct anyone with potential mental health problems to a reliable source of support both internally and externally</li></ul>This qualification is for those over the age of 18, who have an interest in mental health first aid and would like to raise their awareness of mental health within the work environment and be able to actively listen and guide/support work colleagues. Although this qualification is ideal for those who are line managers or work in human resources department, any member of staff should be able to attend this qualification.The qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.

About me, Helen McMahonExperienced trainer of 15+ years delivering training and facilitating learning to a diverse range of businesses and groups all across the UK.I spent 14 years working in the hospitality industry - sometimes a stressful industry!Many many workplaces across a lot of industries now have staff with high stress levels with targets to be met and new business to be found and as a result many people often rely on alcohol, drugs, nicotine or caffeine just to get through the day.I have seen first hand the impact of failure to recognise mental health concerns , the build up that can cause and the results that it can lead to. I see a real need for people to be able to recognise early warning signs and to be able to offer support and signpost to services that can help from an early stage.
