A multi-media exhibition documenting the history of Newham City Farm spanning its 45+ year history from 1976 to 2021 and beyond.

Newham Heritage Month 2025

Newham Heritage Month is an annual heritage festival organised by Newham Council with kind support from National Lottery Heritage Fund. In 2025, the festival will take place in September 2025 with a programme of events on the theme of 'Newham at 60'.

“Straight from the Horse’s Mouth – Ruminations on Newham City Farm” is an exhibition at Beckton Globe Rotunda which aims to document highlights, snapshots and memories gathered from research and contributors with a connection to Newham City Farm and Plashet Zoo ranging from employees, farm and conservation volunteers, representatives from organisations involved in developing the farm and leading visits to the farm, families and individuals across three generations.The exhibition will include:<ul><li>Oral histories from employees, volunteers, educators, visitors</li><li>Written memories</li><li>Media coverage and witness accounts of the opening by Princess Anne in July 1977</li><li>Media coverage and witness accounts of a 25th anniversary visit by Princess Anne in July 2002</li><li>Competition rosettes</li><li>Horseshoes</li><li>Letters from and interviews with celebrities</li><li>Photos from people connected to the farm including of popular seasonal events and familiar animals</li><li>Promotional videos</li><li>Props, programmes and leaflets from events</li><li>Media coverage of the campaign to save the farm between 2021 and 2024</li><li>Opportunity for visitors to provide written or illustrated memories of Newham City Farm</li></ul>Saturday 20 September 2025, 3 - 5pm: exhibition launch. The event will include the opportunity for interaction with and between contributors and to explore the exhibition. Refreshments provided. Please book your place.Monday 22 - Saturday 27 September 2025, library opening hours (when Rotunda is not being used for classes): exhibition on view, no tickets required.
