Swansea Zine Fest: 24-Hour Zine Challenge

Swansea Zine Fest is an annual celebration of fanzines and DIY self-publishing. This year's event will be broadcasting live from 11 - 5pm on Facebook, featuring workshops, how-to's, a zine quiz, and zine readings.

24-hour Zine Challenge:  make a completed zine with us in 24 consecutive hours, from conception to final product!

As part of our Swansea Zine Fest programme this year, we will be holding a 24-hour zine challenge, starting at 5.30pm on Saturday 8th May (30 minutes after the main event ends) and ending at 5.30pm on Sunday 9th May.

The challenge is to attempt to make a completed zine in 24 consecutive hours, from conception to final product. This means that the entire zine should be planned, written, folded, illustrated, cut, and pasted during the challenge time. This is a personal challenge, and you can make it as easy or as difficult as you want - so it's okay if you don't finish your zine quite in time! The fun is in the challenge of trying to complete the zine in the allotted time, but we won't be judging anyone's output. 

Participants will create their zine at home, and we'll all have regular check ins over Zoom throughout the challenge to update each other on our progress and scream about how little time we have left!

Swansea Zine Fest is a celebration of fanzines and DIY self-publishing. A zine (pronounced “zeen,” as in “maga-zine”) is a self-published, small circulation, non-commercial booklet or magazine, usually produced by one person or a few individuals. Zines can include personal essays, political discussions, fiction, do-it-yourself tips, articles about music or movies, comics, poetry, reviews – anything under the sun.
