SPLAS FILM CLUB 2025-2026

The Instituto Cervantes is the world's largest and most important institution dedicated to the teaching of Spanish and the other languages of Spain, as well as to the diffusion of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.The Instituto Cervantes of Leeds was inaugurated on April 23rd, 1993. Therefore, in 2018 we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. A quarter of a century collaborating actively in the teaching of Spanish and the spreading of the Hispanic culture.

The Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with the University of Leeds, is proud to present a special screening of the acclaimed film Argentina, 1985 as part of the SPLAS Film Club 2025-2026Inspired by the true story of Julio Strassera, Luis Moreno Ocampo, and their young, determined legal team, this gripping courtroom drama chronicles their courageous David-versus-Goliath fight to bring justice to the victims of Argentina’s brutal military dictatorship. Against overwhelming odds, they prosecute the leaders of the bloodiest regime in the country’s history, seeking accountability for the atrocities committed during the "Dirty War."Argentina, 1985 offers a powerful and emotional portrayal of resilience, justice, and the pursuit of truth. The film not only captures a critical moment in Argentina’s history but also highlights universal themes of human rights and the rule of law.📽️ The film will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles.
