Join us for a webinar with Lucille Junkere, an artist, textile practitioner, researcher, and indigo dyer.

We are delighted to invite you to join us for a webinar with Lucille Junkere, an artist, textile practitioner, researcher, and indigo dyer with a particular focus on the history of indigo in Nigeria and the Caribbean. Lucille will outline her artistic career to date, and present her latest research focusing on the legacy of colonialism on African Caribbean textile history, which explores the idea of reconnections. Lucille’s presentation will be followed by a live Q&amp;A session with audience members. This webinar is organised to support the Oban-based Eco Creative Cluster project, weaving a network across different creative practices with a focus on nature-based materials and dyeing techniques. Led by The Rockfield Centre, this is part of the CHARTS Place Makers: Micro-cluster Networks programme, in partnership with the Innovation School at Glasgow School of Art, funded by Creative Scotland.About the speaker:In November 2020, Lucille completed a Leverhulme Fellowship on “The colours of Jamaica” exploring Jamaica’s colonial indigo plantations. In April 2017, she completed a Winston Churchill Fellowship to study indigo dyeing and pattern making amongst Yorùbá artisans in Nigeria, building on her work as Artist in Residence at the William Morris Gallery London conducted in 2016. <a href="https://lucillejunkere.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.lucillejunkere.com</a>About Eco Creative Cluster:Eco Creative Cluster is a project to weave a network to connect different creative practitioners and practices with a similar focus on nature-based materials and dyeing techniques such as Ecoprinting. It involves developing a Dye Garden with the lead artist Deborah Gray and local volunteers in the grounds of The Rockfield Centre, a newly refurbished cultural and heritage hub located in the heart of Oban. The fruits of the Dye Garden will create workshops such as Natural Dyeing, Ecoprinting and Shibori, led by Deborah. In parallel, with Oban-based curator Naoko Mabon, the project also aims to weave a broader network of practitioners working across localities based on ecological and sustainable approaches and consciousness, which will generate further collaborations locally, nationally and internationally. <a href="https://www.chartsargyllandisles.org/news/placemakers/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.chartsargyllandisles.org/news/placemakers/</a>
