This event is part of the Rest and Repair exhibition curated by Platform Black in collaboration with UCLH Arts and Heritage. The exhibition will be on display 16th April – 14th June 2021 in the Street Gallery, University College Hospital, 235 Euston Road NW1 2BU (subject to visiting restrictions). An online gallery can be viewed here:Within this Platform Black Conversation curators of the Rest and Repair exhibition Alicia-Pearl Cato and Tobi Alexandra Falade will draw out the ideas behind the exhibition and focus on a conversation around mental health with Tidrah and Tanya, facilitators at OTR, a mental health social movement by and for young people.OTR is a mental health social movement by and for young people. OTR isn’t just a charity providing mental health services, it’s a mental health movement mobilised to support, promote and defend the mental health, rights and social position of young people. In late 2020, UCLH arts and heritage invited Platform Black to curate an exhibition in the Street Gallery space at University College Hospital. Rest and Repair is Platform Black’s first exhibition in London curated by co-founders Tobi Alexandra Falade and Alicia-Pearl Cato. This group exhibition features emerging artists whose work explores themes of place, identity, heritage and belonging through their work using mediums such as oil, acrylic, and digital painting, collage, installation, sound and moving image. Platform Black is a visual arts community which highlights the work of Black Creatives and connects with communities of professionals and resources to transform institutions. https://www.instagram.com/platform.black/ Rest and Repair explores the specificity of the lived experiences of black women through each of the artists work and draws on themes of mental health, resilience, and community. With this exhibition we hope to foster interactions and encounters that uplift and inspire in turbulent times.UCLH arts and heritage is the hospital arts and heritage project that serves UCLH NHS Foundation Trust and its surrounding community and is funded entirely by charitable donations and fundraising. UCLH arts and heritage is committed to providing a welcoming, uplifting environment for all patients, visitors and staff through the use of a varied and stimulating arts and heritage programme.
