A new workshop exploring our innovative approach to creating and performing interactive theatre. Part of our new online workshop series.
A new workshop exploring our innovative approach to creating and performing interactive theatre. Part of our new online workshop series.
About the workshop...
This workshop offers an introduction to performing and creating interactive theatre. In the session we will explore:
- some of the key ways in which we begin to create interactive theatre
- the different models for audience interaction, ranging from end-on audience participation shows all the way through to immersive installation pieces and street theatre performance
- the demands of this sort of work on performers (both in terms of creativity and welfare)
- the creation of “alter-ego” characters
- working in urban environments/the public space
We’ll explore how a performer can prepare themselves for that “leap into the unknown”, but we’ll also paradoxically explore the art of un-preparation.
Grounded in playfulness, improvisation, solid character work, and experimentation, this is endlessly exciting work for us as a company and we hope the workshop provides an equally exciting insight into this field of work. Suitable for performers, writers, theatre makers or directors looking to explore this work themselves.
About 6FootStories...
6FootStories have made a wide range of interactive work over the years. Projects include festival fortune parlour-cum-swap shop The Gypsy Lodge, storytelling extravaganza The Potato Puppet Playground, spoof art gallery The Tat Modern, and a wide range of bespoke entertainments for festivals & events across the country. We have toured interactive work to BoomTown, Green Man, Electric Picnic, Standon Calling, Valley Fest and the streets of Romford, Basildon, Brighton and beyond.
About the instructors...
The workshop will be run by co-artistic directors of 6FootStories, Jake Hassam & Nigel Munson. Between them they have taught at drama schools including East 15, Fourth Monkey, Italia Conti, Rose Bruford, Kingdom and the Oxford School of Drama. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience as theatre makers and as facilitators, and have picked up an enormous amount of first hand experience of all sorts of different interactive scenarios. The creative lessons they’ve learned ‘in the field’ pervade all areas of their work, and they can’t wait to share some of their practice in these online workshops.
