Dante 700th Talk Series 2021

Dante Society London

A series of talk to complement the Dante 700th Exhibition and Events on Dante Alighieri and his times.

Dante 101 Durante Alighieri, born in Florence in 1265 and known simply as Dante, revolutionized both poetry and language in his lifetime. But how much do we actually know about his home, work, family, friendships, and loves? In this lecture we will explore what we know of his childhood and early adulthood as an active participant in the political and cultural life of Florence, including his conspicuous relationships with everyone from important international figures to the neighbourhood nobles (including Beatrice). After an examination of his early works, we will delve into the Comedy and the autobiography we find within.
