Textile Art - A Season Themed Fabric Art Embroidered Memory Box (Thetford)

Overview of Course

This is a creative fabric art project where you will learn various techniques in order to create your very own fabric artwork box from scratch.

For this short course you will learn how to design the fabric collage box using, slow hand stitching, appliqué onto fabric, painting onto fabric and hand embroidery to create your very own beautifully hand-crafted seasonal themed fabric art collage memory box with an opening on the top so you can treasure your keeps sakes.

What will I learn?

During sessions you will learn how to build a design for your memory box, through sketching nature related objects you have chosen. Write small snippets from your memories of the seasons that are particularly special to you. Then you will learn how to build a collage box using the sketches you created.

You will be given a box template and prepared fine stiff tarlatan scrim to work on. Using slow stitching, appliqué, fabric painting and simplistic embroidery stitches you will learn step by step some fabric art methods to build up your box, with various hand dyed fabrics, printed fabrics, embroidery thread, reclaimed fabrics, voile, netting, vintage lace, ribbon and lastly adding embellishments to pull the fabric art collage box design together.

Over the duration of the course, you learn how to plan your design for the fabric art collage box through to a finished beautifully hand crafted seasoned themed fabric art memory box.

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at people who would like to try something new and creative who would like to have a go at mix media fabric art. It is great for beginners and intermediate sewers no need to be artistic as you will be fully guided on how to make your piece, and each piece will be individual to you. The course is designed to relax and have crafting fun great place to start if you want to move into the world of the fabric art.

Will I have to provide anything?

You will be provided with all the materials needed to create your fabric art collage box and the equipment you will need to make the item.

Please bring a some A4 cartridge paper or sketchbook, drawing pencil, ruler and if you have any reclaimed fabrics or lace you may like to use in your work you can.

Before the course starts you could think about the different seasons, there may be a particular flower or leaves that you favour from one of the four seasons this could be dried out to bring with you.

There will also be a collection of objects from nature brought into class that you will be able to sketch.

If you have any pictures, postcards or photographs relevent to the four seasons these can be great inspirations for designing your piece.
