📍 The Auxiliary, Middlesbrough🗓 Wednesday 1st October, 6pm - 8pm🎟Free/Donation
Join us for an evening of independent cinema and conversation with Freefilmers, a grassroots collective of filmmakers from Ukraine, many of whom hail from working-class and industrial cities like Mariupol. The collective creates and distributes films rooted in local stories, experimental approaches, and political urgency, often spotlighting life on the margins.
We’ll screen a curated selection of short films by Freefilmers, followed by a live Q&A (via Zoom) with collective member Sashko Protyah, and filmmaker Oksana Kazmina. The event invites discussion around resistance, care, and the role of filmmaking in times of displacement and conflict.
This event follows Freefilmers’ solidarity-based model. Entry is free, and optional donations will go directly towards supporting their ongoing creative and mutual aid work in Ukraine.
Fully accessible. All welcome.
