Social science reflections on dementia research and practice

In this free online workshop you can hear from speakers from the UK and Japan about social science research on dementia. It is aimed at people with a professional interest in dementia, in relation to policy, research, or social care practice but it may also be of interest to anyone with a personal interest in dementia. <a href="https://keio.pure.elsevier.com/en/persons/junko-kitanaka" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Junko Kitanaka</a> will talk about &#x27;Cultivating Empathy: The Rise of Dementia Tojisha (user) Movement in Japan&#x27;. Junko is Professor of Medical Anthropology, based in the Department of Human Sciences, Keio University, Tokyo, Japan.<a href="https://www.research.ed.ac.uk/en/persons/julia-swallow" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Julia Swallow </a>will talk about &#x27;Diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease in clinical practice: Negotiating expectations and uncertainties&#x27;. Julia is a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society at the University of Edinburgh, UK.<a href="https://bold-scotland.org/find-out-about-bold/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Frankie Greenwood</a> will also be adding her reflections about the talks. Frankie facilitates the <a href="https://bold-scotland.org." target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bold Project,</a> and is based in the Edinburgh Centre for Research on the Experience of Dementia (E-CRED).<a href="https://www.ed.ac.uk/profile/martyn-pickersgill" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Martyn Pickersgill </a>(Professor of the Sociology of Science and Medicine, University of Edinburgh) will Chair the event.It takes place during <a href="https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-involved/dementia-action-week#:~:text=When%20is%20Dementia%20Action%20Week,on%2017%20%E2%80%93%2023%20May%202021." target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dementia Action Week 2021</a>.
