AboutWild18 May 2019 - 6 October 2019 , 10:00 to 17:00DENNYSON STODDART GALLERY, PALACE GREEN LIBRARYWild: A celebration of the natural history of the British IslesFrom high peaks and valleys to meandering rivers and powerful seas – see how animals have adapted to live and thrive in the varied environments of the British Isles. Visitors will have the opportunity to see some of Britain’s most elusive animals including the red fox, red squirrel, barn owl and great crested newt up close and personal in this family friendly exhibition.The gallery will be packed with games and activities, including a free gallery trail to complete, and also includes some treasures from the Palace Green Library Special Collections including 19th Century Boys Own Annuals and hand painted illustrations of British birds by ornithologist John Selby.There will also be the chance to learn about the work of Durham Wildlife Trust, including taking part in their animal spotting programme Mammal Web, developed in collaboration with Durham University.Free entryA full programme of related activities and events for all age groups is running alongside this exhibition. Palace Green Library served as the University’s main library for 150 years before focusing on archival and special collections in the 1980s. Today, Palace Green Library is a place for visitors and researchers to explore both the University’s treasures and collections from around the world.

Then join playwright and poet<a href="https://lizmyttonwrites.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Liz Mytton</a> for this free and energising workshop where we explore material from the collections in Cosin’s Library and use them as inspiration to produce ‘found poetry’, sestinas and a collection of Haiku.

This session is open to people who are new to creative writing.&#x27;Poetry and purpose in historic collections&#x27; is part of the <a href="https://sites.durham.ac.uk/cosinslibrary/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cosin&#x27;s Library Project</a> engagement programme.
