A taste of hand-quilting

Visitors will have the opportunity to see some of Britain’s most elusive animals including the red fox, red squirrel, barn owl and great crested newt up close and personal in this family friendly exhibition.The gallery will be packed with games and activities, including a free gallery trail to complete, and also includes some treasures from the Palace Green Library Special Collections including 19th Century Boys Own Annuals and hand painted illustrations of British birds by ornithologist John Selby.There will also be the chance to learn about the work of Durham Wildlife Trust, including taking part in their animal spotting programme Mammal Web, developed in collaboration with Durham University.Free entryA full programme of related activities and events for all age groups is running alongside this exhibition. Palace Green Library served as the University’s main library for 150 years before focusing on archival and special collections in the 1980s. Today, Palace Green Library is a place for visitors and researchers to explore both the University’s treasures and collections from around the world.

A free workshop for beginners to try traditional hand-quilting.

With the help of artist <a href="https://amandajanetextiles.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Amanda Jane Ogden</a>, you will make a small, personalised piece inspired by the architecture and design of Cosin’s Library.About Amanda:I have loved making things since I was a child, influenced no doubt by my mother (a keen dressmaker) and my father (a garden designer and amateur painter). My school and university encouraged me in a different direction, however, and it was not until much later that my own locked-in creativity began to emerge. Embroidery classes led on to a Textiles degree and PGCE and an additional qualification in Patchwork and Quilting. Currently, I draw, paint, design and stitch full-time as a designer-maker (listed in the Crafts Council Directory). It is now a pleasure to encourage creative skills in other people.&#x27;A taste of hand-quilting&#x27; is part of the <a href="https://sites.durham.ac.uk/cosinslibrary/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cosin&#x27;s Library Project </a>engagement programme.
