Every year in May, Dying Matters and their coalition members host an Awareness Week, which gives us an unparalleled opportunity to place the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement firmly on the national agenda.In 2022, the week will run from 2nd to the 6th of May and the theme will be "In A Good Place". Dying Matters for more than just one week of the year so Dying Matters in Essex will be planning to hold events sporadically throughout the year.

The Art Place

<blockquote>Thank you for taking part in Dying Matters Awareness Week 2021. This year, we are focusing on the importance of being in a good place to die.</blockquote><blockquote>Where people die is changing. More and more people have been dying at home in recent years. And the pandemic has seen this number leap by tens of thousands.</blockquote><blockquote>There is no right or wrong place to die; it will be different for everyone. But it is important for people to think about it, to talk about it and to plan for it.</blockquote><blockquote>We want people of all ages to be in a good place when they die – physically, emotionally and with the right care in place.</blockquote>At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is &#x27;to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives&#x27;. A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.Death Cafes are always offered:- On a not for profit basis- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action- Alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food – and cake!As this event is face to face, please wear your mask and be respectful of others in attendance.
