Homelessness and Safeguarding Case Sessions

The London Network for Nurses and Midwives (LNNM) was set up in 1999 by Christine Beasley (the Chief Nursing Officer at that time). It’s purpose was to bring together specialist nurses and midwives together to influence health policy pan London. When it was originally set up there were a large number of other specialist interest groups in operation. The homelessness group is the only one remaining active.The group meets bi-monthly usually in central london for a discussion on topic or case of interest and for some networking. We have expanded as a network to include allied professionals working in or with a strong interest in homeless health.This will be our fifth annual conference and hopefully our largest as numbers in attendance have increased year on year.If you would like to join the London Network of Nurses and Midwives Homelessness group we would be very happy to hear from you!Please contact the network directly using contact@homelesshealthnetwork.net

We are pleased to announce further dates of the Homelessness and Safeguarding Case Sessions with Prof. Michael Preston-Shoot and Mike Ward.

<h2>Homelessness and Safeguarding Case Sessions</h2> The London Network of Nurses and Midwives Homelessness Group are pleased to announce further dates of Homelessness and Safeguarding Case Sessions, led by Professor Michael Preston Shoot and Mike Ward.These sessions provide an opportunity for practitioners to discuss complex and challenging cases involving people experiencing homelessness, alcohol-dependence and/or self-neglect. <h3>About the presenters</h3>Professor Michael Preston-Shoot ​is ​Emeritus Professor of Social Work​ at The University of Bedford​. He also serves as an Independent Chair​ for ​​​Greenwich​, Somerset and Lewisham​ Safeguarding Adult Board​s, is Joint Co-ordinator at the National SAB Chair's Network and an Independent Adult Safeguarding Consultant.​Michael is a qualified social worker with huge experience of child and adult protection, mental health and family therapy practice. He has an international reputation for research and publications in the fields of law and ethics in social work education and practice, working with families, and people experiencing homelessness. ​Michael recently completed research for the Department of Health on adult safeguarding and has undertaken detailed reviews of multiple homelessness SARS.​ He is also co-editor of ​<a href="https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Adult_Safeguarding_and_Homelessness/u71CEAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0" title="https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Adult_Safeguarding_and_Homelessness/u71CEAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Adult Safeguarding and Homelessness</a>, a one stop resource which highlights evidence-informed practice for those working with individuals experiencing multiple exclusion homelessness and adult safeguarding.Mike Ward has worked in the alcohol field for over 30 years as a provider, service manager and commissioner. He is a senior consultant and trainer at Alcohol Change UK providing guidance and expertise across the alcohol treatment spectrum. Together with Mark Holmes, Mike developed the <a href="https://alcoholchange.org.uk/help-and-support/training/for-practitioners/blue-light-training/the-blue-light-project" title="https://alcoholchange.org.uk/help-and-support/training/for-practitioners/blue-light-training/the-blue-light-project" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Blue Light Project</a>, Alcohol Change UK’s ground breaking initiative to develop alternative approaches and care pathways to improve the response to change resistant, dependent drinkers. The project shows that there are positive strategies that can be used with this client group to help turn their lives around.Mike and Michael are co-authors of <a href="https://alcoholchange.org.uk/publication/how-to-use-legal-powers-to-safeguard-highly-vulnerable-dependent-drinkers" title="https://alcoholchange.org.uk/publication/how-to-use-legal-powers-to-safeguard-highly-vulnerable-dependent-drinkers" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">How to use legal powers to safeguard highly vulnerable dependent drinkers </a>(Alcohol Change UK).Michael and Mike will join us to offer perspectives and ideas drawn from their research, and from their adult safeguarding practice and review experience. <h3>Dates and Times</h3>Sessions will take place online (via MS Teams) from 3.30pm to 5pm on the following dates: <ul><li>Thursday 25th September 2025</li><li>Tuesday 16th December 2025</li><li>Thursday 5th March 2026</li></ul>Places are limited. We will operate a waiting list once sessions are fully booked. If you have booked a place which you no longer require, we would be grateful if you cancel it to allow others to attend. <h3>Booking information</h3>Sessions are free and all are welcome.
