The Good Practice Mentor (GPM) programme is a new and innovative project that brings together legacy, learning and resources from Ageing Better, a seven year Test & Learn project that worked to reduce social isolation and loneliness in people aged over 50, and engaged more than 150,000 people in over 366 projects.The GPM team includes;South Yorkshire Housing Association, Age UK Camden and Leeds Older People ForumEach partner brings a unique set of learning and skills to the project, and together we offer a wide range of training, bespoke support for your organisation and toolkits and resources to help you on your journey to reducing loneliness and isolation.Find out more about the Good Practice Mentor programme and the range of support on offer by emailingJennie Shrewsbury, Programme Lead - j.shrewsbury@syha.co.uk

Social isolation, loneliness and older people

This collection shares learning on how to overcome social isolation, loneliness, and stereotyping amongst older people.

Ageing Better partners identified a number of barriers that stopped older people engaging with activities which aimed at reducing loneliness and social isolation - from the purely practical to the psychological. This webinar will help you to think about these barriers and practical ways you might approach removing them.We’ll be thinking about these issues in two ways. We will look at how a focus on the person you are working with can help you support them to engage, and we will also look at the double jeopardy provided by intersectionality, and how you might need to tackle that for whole groups from the outset.For older people some of the groups at risk of double jeopardy here might include younger older people, men, members of minority communities, and LGBTQ+ older people.This course is an excellent companion to 'Addressing barriers to participation via outreach comms'
