Social Care Wales are working with the Institute of Public Care to develop a national workforce plan for direct care services

Following the launch of A Healthier Wales: Our Workforce Strategy for Health and Social Care, Social Care Wales are working with the Institute of Public Care (IPC) at Oxford Brookes University to develop a national workforce plan for direct care services (which includes residential care, domiciliary care, day services, shared lives schemes, fostering and adoption services across adults and children’s services). 
The overall ambition of the workforce plan is to:
●	Have a direct care workforce with the right values, behaviours, knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver care and to support people’s wellbeing as close to home as possible.

●	Have a workforce that feels valued and is valued.
●	Have a workforce in sufficient numbers to be able to deliver responsive social care that meets the needs of the people of Wales.
●	Have a workforce that is reflective of the population’s diversity, Welsh language, and cultural identity.
To achieve that ambition, we have drafted a set of actions based on some initial engagement with the sector and we would like to invite staff and managers who are working in direct care services to take part in an online (Microsoft Teams) workshop to help us finalise the workforce plan. We will share with you our progress to date and ask for your feedback and seek suggestions as to what else needs to be included to make it a realistic and credible plan.
