Event description:
Homelessness and rough sleeping is now a humanitarian emergency. Building more social housing and fixing the broken planning system are essential but alone will not fix this national crisis. Ending it will require a level of ambition, leadership and collaboration that we haven’t seen for many years.
This event is being held in partnership with Homeless Link and Riverside.
This event will explore the following questions:
- What does this Labour Government need to do to repeat the achievements of previous Labour administrations in severely reducing the number of single people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping?
- What role will Mayors, charities and the housing sector play in achieving this ambition?
- Where do the barriers to ending single homelessness exist in funding, legislation, practice, and co-ordination?
- What does Labour's ambition to shift to prevention mean in practice?
Format:
The event will begin with 5-7 minute contributions from the panellists, followed by some questions from the chair, and a short Q&A from the audience, collected in batches of three. The event will finish promptly at 10:30am.
Also invited to the panel are:
- Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester (Invited)
- Fiona Colley, Director of Social Change at Homelesslink
- Darren Murinas, Expert by experience
- Paul Dolan, Group Chief Executive of Riverside
- David Smith MP, Vice Chair of the APPG for Ending Homelessness (Chair)
