How to end burnout culture in the aid sector | online seminar

RGU School of Law and Social Sciences

Join Gemma Houldey for a discussion of burnout in the aid sector

Gemma will discuss her upcoming book The Vulnerable Humanitarian: Ending Burnout Culture in the Aid Sector. The book draws on 6 years of research into stress and wellbeing in the aid and development sector, including doctoral research in Kenya, and on her 15 years experience working for humanitarian and human rights organisations. The book recommends practices to support aid workers in self- and collective care, and in challenging policies and ways of working that make people feel unappreciated, unsupported and unwell. Gemma Houldey is a writer, advisor and facilitator on cultivating healthy and inclusive working practices in the aid and development sector. She has worked on humanitarian and human rights programmes in East Africa and the Middle East, and in 2019 completed her PhD in International Development at the University of Sussex, which investigated stress and burnout among international and national aid workers in Kenya. You can read more about her work on her website www.gemmahouldey.com. ____________________________This event is a Community Seminar Series event hosted by Robert Gordon University's School of Applied Social Studies.
