School governors, school leaders and school teachers have been challenged to evaluate whether their classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, staffrooms, boardrooms, curriculum and libraries are representative of the communities who they serve. This book focuses on how teachers can support students in feeling that they belong whilst considering their own identity and experience of belonging of the teachers as well. I use the term ‘teacher’ lightly as I prefer to speak to all educators and recognise everyone else who contributes to the smooth running and success of a school. So, I hope that our support staff will also read this book as we need the whole school community to understand and commit to DEIB, as a whole school approach in a similar way to our shared vision and collective responsibility for safeguarding.About the series:This series is made up of concise and insightful books offering practical advice and development in an accessible and easy-to-digest format. We know that teachers are under an immense amount of pressure for a variety of reasons - whether they aren’t taking enough time for themselves, are finding parents challenging or are worrying about the next Ofsted visit – this series seeks to provide them with the inspiration and support they need in their everyday lives.
