Glass-House Chats: Designing in Stories

The Glass-House Community Led Design is a national charity dedicated to connecting people with the design of their places, and connecting design with people. For over two decades, we have supported communities, organisations and networks to work collaboratively to shape buildings, spaces, homes and neighbourhoods.The Glass-House sees design not only as a tool for creating great places, but also as a way to connect people and empower them with enhanced confidence, skills and a greater sense of agency. We provide hands-on support and training, share knowledge and learning, and inspire new thinking and debate through action research, events and resources.

Glass-House Chats are monthly hour-long online spaces for conversation and connection, where we explore a range of themes around people, design and placemaking. each month we are joined by an inspiring co-host.

<h4>Co-hosted with Cristina Carrasco, <a href="https://unionchapel.org.uk/projects/heritage/sunday-school-project" title="https://unionchapel.org.uk/projects/heritage/sunday-school-project" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Union Chapel</a></h4> Every place is full of stories. When bringing a heritage building back to life, or when shaping any building, public space or whole neighbourhood, there is an opportunity to bring those stories to life. Whether through a collaborative design journey or through the physical changes made, there is something powerful about connecting our built world with local people and communities, past and present, through stories.At this Chat, we will be joined by Cristina Carrasco, Participation Manager for the <a href="https://unionchapel.org.uk/projects/heritage/sunday-school-project" title="https://unionchapel.org.uk/projects/heritage/sunday-school-project" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sunday School Stories Project at Union Chapel</a> in Islington. With her, we will explore different ways to both tap into and celebrate the stories connected with the places we inhabit, and how these can both contribute to and influence our sense of cultural belonging within our shared heritage across architecture, music and social justice.We also look forward to hearing the stories you can share. <h4>About Glass-House Chats</h4>Glass-House Chats are monthly hour-long online spaces for conversation and connection, to ask questions and explore ideas, approaches and methods, share learning and meet others.Series 6 sees us collaborating with a range of inspiring people and organisations who will co-host sessions with us. Each guest co-host will help us bring focus, expertise and experience to conversations about different aspects of the design of places. From empathy to sustainability, we’ll unpick some of the successful ingredients of design and explore what great design can achieve. <h4>About our Co-host</h4>Cristina Carrasco is a qualified and experienced Sociologist, Project Manager in Participatory Arts, Educator and Musician. With more than 20 years’ experience in the creative industry in Barcelona &amp; London, she is an advocate for innovative &amp; collaborative art initiatives to promote positive changes in our society. <h4>How to Take Part</h4>Glass-House Chats are open to anyone with an interest in the event topic. No specific experience or expertise is required to join the conversation. We believe that our Chats only benefit from a wide mix of voices, interests and experiences.These free online events are kept intentionally small so that everyone taking part can jump in and join the conversation. Where possible, we encourage participants to keep their cameras and microphones on, to pose questions and ideas, and to share stories and links.To create a safe space for open discussion, the Chatham House Rule is applied. Key discussion points are collated, anonymised and shared after each session. <h4>How to Book</h4>Glass-House Chats are free events, but places are limited, so please register only if you plan to attend. <h4>Please note:</h4>We will record the Chat session to help with capturing the conversation, but this recording will not be made publicly available or shared outside The Glass-House team. Following the event, we will publish a blog capturing key discussion points, but rest assured that no-one will be quoted directly, and no participants will be named.
