 A full day of Education, Presentations and Workshops from multi agency professionals and Survivors.

To mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2021 we are hosting our annual Prevention Convention.The convention topics are; victim blaming, coercive control, cyber security, LGBTQIA+, children, family law, DA Act, Narcissism, our best practise responses and how being trauma informed is essential. All delivered by inspirational survivors and multi-agency professionals, enhancing and expanding knowledge of and in the sector.We want to Inspire, Educate and Empower all delegates whether individuals or part of an organisation by advancing knowledge and providing useful tools for all to use with resources available. Together we can all make a difference, big or small to help others along their freedom journey, creating a trauma informed society and aiding an abuse free future by breaking the cycles and having the knowledge of how to use best practise to support/prevent.The convention will be opened by our amazing Patron Michelle Jordan, BBC Radio Berkshire and Oxfordshire DJ who has a passion to support anyone experiencing abuse and highlight the reality in our society. "After having witnessed first-hand one of my best friends suffer at the hands of her abuser and feeling helpless I never want to feel like that again. I also had feelings of despair, frustration, anger and an overwhelming feeling of not doing enough to challenge her abuser and get her out of that situation. I have unfortunately seen different types of coercive control in my friendship group, one in a younger male friend (he was the victim) &amp; one in a very close friend who had endured this situation for a couple of decades while her kids were growing up.Luckily in all 3 cases they are now living happy &amp; fulfilling lives, no longer scared but the scars rear their ugly heads now and again. They have all found coping strategies and recognise that they are survivors. I know that some people have nowhere to turn and so the work Kaleidoscopic do could be life changing &amp; life saving!If thru my social media &amp; my general gobby-ness on the radio helps this wonderful charity then bring it on! Mich xx”Our amazing Speakers are:Dr Jessica Taylor-Dr Jessica Taylor (FRSA, PhD) the founder of VictimFocus, the VictimFocus Blog and The VictimFocus Academy.VictimFocus is her independent business providing research, consultancy, writing and speaking in forensic psychology, feminism and mental health. The VictimFocus Blog has 1.2 million readers per year and provides a lively, funny and critical perspective on CSE, victim blaming, feminism and sexual violence. In 2018, Jessica developed and launched the VictimFocus Charter to encourage all professionals to challenge and reduce victim blaming in their practice. She founded her third and fourth social enterprise: VictimFocus Academy and VictimFocus Resources.Dr Taylor will be running a workshop as part of the convention with useful tools for all on victim blaming, how to help prevent abuse, how to help with disclosures and what being trauma informed involves.Jaimi Shrive -Jaimi Shrive has an extensive background in local politics along with a degree in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Birmingham. She is the author of several reports and mixed-methods research projects on topics such as women's rights, Jaimi and Jessica will together be presenting the findings of their latest report, the biggest survey conducted in the UK to date with over 22 thousand people taking part around VAWG. The results highlight the experiences of so many in society today.Nicole Jacobs- Nicole Jacobs is the designate Domestic Abuse Commissioner for England and Wales. Ms Jacobs was the former Chief Executive Officer at charity Standing Together Against Domestic Violence and has more than two decades of experience working to reduce domestic abuse. Nicole will be presenting the latest updates including the new Domestic Abuse Act.Establishing the Office of the Domestic Abuse Commissioner shows the government’s commitment to reducing harm and improving the lives of those who experience domestic abuse."It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed as the first Commissioner and I intend to raise the voices of victims and survivors of all ages, status and background and ensure that we shine a light on practice that fails them." Christopher Green; OBE, Founder &amp; President of White Ribbon (UK) In 2004 Chris Green founded White Ribbon UK while working as a senior lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University. From 2005-2008 he was appointed by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities to be a member of the Council of Europe Task Force to combat Violence against Women, one of only 8 members, which formulated and obtained funding to create the Istanbul Convention, now signed and ratified by 26 European countries. From 2006 to 2010, He was a member of the World Health Organisation’s Violence Prevention Alliance. From 2007-2009 he was Chair of the Steering Group of the government sponsored Coalition on Men and Boys which produced a major report In 2007 he was awarded the title Ultimate Man 2007 by Cosmopolitan Magazine for his work on anti-violence strategies. He has three times been recognized by invitations to receptions held by Prime Minsters at Number 10, Downing Street, and two invitations to the Speakers House in Parliament. In 2008 he took early retirement from Manchester Metropolitan University to concentrate on further developing White Ribbon UK From 2012-2016 he sat on the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) Domestic Violence Stakeholders Advisory Group, and the Public Health England Violence against Women Advisory group, as well as the National Institute for Clinical Excellence working party on Domestic AbuseUN Group Leaders of Men to Combat Violence against WomenIn 2012 he was appointed to the UN Group Leaders of Men to Combat Violence against Women by Ban Ki Moon, a group of 20 men working to combat violence which included Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero and author Paulo Coelho, and received a letter of congratulation from the Prime Minister.From 2012-2016 he was a member of the End Violence against Women Coalition Prevention group and Expert Advisory Group.In 2017 New Years Honours Chris Green was awarded an OBE by HM the Queen for Services to Equality.Chris will be discussing the males role in preventing abuse.Jennifer Gilmour- Jennifer Gilmour is an author and advocate for women in abusive relationships, using her own experiences of domestic abuse as a catalyst to bring awareness and to help others. Jennifer has published two publications, Isolation Junction and Clipped Wings which have both been Amazon Best Sellers and received awards. Jennifer speaks at events across the UK and continues to raise awareness through her blog posts, public speaking, radio interviews and social media.Jennifer has listened to her readers and has grown a digital community to support discussions around domestic abuse online. Starting with her Twitter Chat which opened late 2017 #AbuseTalk, this developed into an online forum in 2018. In 2019, Jennifer launched a podcast which include interviews with those in the sector and gives followers the opportunity to ask burning questions. Most Informative Blogger Award 2018 (Bloggers Bash Annual Awards)UK &amp; European Award for using Social Media for Good 2019 (Social Day: Social Media Marketing Awards) Jennifer will be sharing her story about coercive control, the impacts and her journey to freedom.Jake Morrison- Jake Morrison is Chief Executive at Citizens Advice Wokingham and a Mental Health First Aid instructor. In a previous role he helped to setup a service for people experiencing gender violence or abuse called 'ASK for Angela' which was commended in an independent study, its goal was to ensure immediate access to Citizens Advice services in Stockport without needing to wait in a queue or explain any issues at reception.Jake is passionate about empowering people to move forward with any issues in their life, but having grown up witnessing domestic abuse from an early age is aware of the trauma effects it can have on the individual concerned and the household."Lisa Lee-Lisa has specialised in family law since 2012. She qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2018 and a Solicitor in 2019. Lisa specialises in family law and has a varied practice including divorce and separation, the financial issues that arise as a result of a relationship breakdown, domestic abuse, issues between unmarried couples and all children matters (including public law work). Lisa has particular experience in complex children act matters, including those involving serious allegations of harm towards a parent or a child and cases where a children’s guardian or the local authority are involved.She volunteers at the local Citizens Advice surgery and regularly gives presentations on divorce to divorcing couples. She is a member of the Thames Valley Family Law Society. Sarah Benfield -Sarah qualified as a solicitor in 1984. She has a degree in Law from Birmingham University and passed Law Society Finals at Guildford College of Law. Sarah first got on the Law Society Children Panel in 1994, qualified as a Resolution Mediator in 1996 and as a Collaborative Lawyer in 2006.Sarah's key areas of practice are Public law children matters, divorce and separation, pre and post-nuptial agreements, domestic abuse, and financial issues which follow relationship breakdown. Sarah also advises on complex Private law children cases with multiple parties, applications for leave to remove a child permanently from the Jurisdiction, prohibited steps applications to prevent the removal of children, Parental and Step-Parental Responsibility Agreements, Specific Issue application such as change of name, contact and residence disputes. Sarah often advises family members in respect of Special Guardianship applications. Sarah is a member of the Law Society Family Panel and Children Panel, Thames Valley and M3 Corridor Family Law Society, and Association of Lawyers for Children. She is a trained Mediator, Collaborative Lawyer, accredited specialist with Resolution and the former Chair of Berkshire brand of Resolution.Cyber Helpline- Nikki WebbNikki is the Global Channel Manager for Custodian360 (cyber security) as well as the Marketing Manager for UK-based charity The Cyber Helpline. Over the last year, Nikki has also been an avid volunteer for Cyber House Party. Nikki has been nominated for the third year running for the CRN Women in Channel Rising Star award. In July 2021 Nikki co-founded and launched Respect in Security, an initiative to make the Security industry harassment free and a safer place to work in.Nikki delivers multiple workshops in educational settings to encourage people into the industry and teach the younger generation what is acceptable behaviour online, plus how to protect their own privacy online creating a positive digital footprint from a young age.Nikki will be presenting on Cyber safety in domestic violence with tools we can all learn/implement.Luke Martin- Luke Martin has almost fifteen years’ experience working in the domestic and sexual abuse sector. With both an academic and practical background in the field, Luke has established himself as one of the leading professionals on working with male and LGBT+ victims of domestic and sexual abuse.Luke has been fully freelance as a consultant for the last three years, and part time for the last five. As a consultant Luke has been the author of the updated Working with Male Victims Toolkit for Respect (2019), as well as Home Office Funded national standards for services working with male victims of abuse (due to be published December 2020).Luke has previously co-written and co-delivered a pan-London LGBT+ recovery programme for survivors of domestic abuse and is currently writing a behavioural change perpetrator programme for LGBT+ perpetrators. Luke continues to deliver as a guest speaker on the SafeLives IDVA programme on LGBT+ experiences.Luke will be presenting and highlighting all areas of LGBT, what we can all do to better to support victim/survivors and the specific challenges the community faces.Dr Supriya McKenna- a qualified doctor and has practised as a GP before concentrating on life coaching and supporting those involved in relationships with narcissists as a result of her own lifelong personal experiences with highly narcissistic individuals. Supriya works specifically with the victims of narcissistic relationships, helping them to navigate the road to lasting recovery and happiness, particularly in the areas of separation, divorce, and post divorce abuse. Helping professionals as a result of my own experiences with highly narcissistic individuals. It had become clear to me that an understanding of the challenges faced by those who had experienced narcissistic abuse was still sadly lacking amongst healthcare professionals, the legal profession and the general public, no matter how well meaning these people meant to be.Supriya trained in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, undergoing the Oxford Mindfulness Centre's teacher training in 2017, and in personal performance coaching with The Coaching Academy. Now Supriya's main focus is on educating the general public and family lawyers on the subject of narcissism. Giving practical support, coaching and mentoring to the victims of narcissistic relationships. First to come to terms with and understand what has happened to them, and then, should they choose to, to move forwards in their lives by disengaging from their narcissistic relationship. The co-author of 2 books, published by Bath Publishing: "Divorcing a narcissist - the lure the loss and the law" and "Narcissism and Family Law - a practitioners guide", written with one of the UK's top divorce lawyers, Karin Walker. We are currently collaborating on our third book. I've also written health features and have been published in various publications, including Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire.Karin Walker-Karin Walker has practised exclusively in the area of family law since 1988. Karin deals with all aspects of family law, including financial remedy proceedings, and offers pragmatic, constructive, and individualized advice to help clients find the best way forward.Karin's additional training as a mediator, a collaborative lawyer and an arbitrator enables her to assist clients in exploring their options and choosing the process that is right for them. As an FMC (Family Mediation Council) accredited mediator, Karin is able to hold information and assessment meetings (MIAM). She is also qualified to have direct consultation with children in mediation.Karin is recognised by both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners as a leader in her field. She regularly writes articles on a number of topics associated with family law and has appeared in the media locally and nationally. Karin also speaks locally, nationally and internationally on all aspects of family law including mediation, collaborative law and arbitration.Having been a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) since admission as a solicitor, Karin was an elected member to Resolution’s National Committee for two terms (resigning in 2017) and Chair of the National DR Committee from 2014 to 2017. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. In 2016 Karin became a member of the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators and a Freeman of the City of London.'Narcissism and Family Law – a practitioner's guide' is by Dr Supriya McKenna and Karin Walker with their client partner book entitled: Divorcing a Narcissist – the lure, the loss and the law'. Both publications provide a valuable insight into the world of family law when one of the participants suffers from NPD.Supriya and Karin will be discussing the Narcissistic Parent, impacts on the family and how to navigate for the best outcome.
