Walking Tour - Capital Ring Section1 - Woolwich to Falconwood

This walk is led by Rob Smith, one of Footprints of London's guides. Rob is a qualified Clerkenwell and Islington Guide, but he leads walks all over Greater London and the South East. Rob has lived in London for nearly 30 years and is particularly interested in industrial, military and political history. He also teaches London history classes at Bishopsgate Institute, Morley College and South Thames College

Starting a summer journey around the Capital Ring. Part One visits Woolwich Dockyard, The Thames Barrier, Charlton House, Severndroog Castle

The Capital Ring is a 78 mile circular path connecting parks and open spaces, divided into 15 sections. Over the Spring and Summer you can walk the Capital Ring with the Footprints of London Guides. However long you have lived in London you will see the city in a new light if you complete the walk, and there will be lots of new places to visit along the way. And with our guides to lead you and tell a few interesting stories along the way, you don't need to bring a map or read the guide book.
Rob Smith leads section one of the walk from Woolwich Arsenal station, West along the Thames through the site of Henry VIII's dockyard, visiting the park where cult 60's film Blowup was filmed and passing Charlton House, one of London's finest Jacobean buildings. The walk climbs up to peaceful Oxleas Wood in which is hidden Severndroog Castle, a curious folly with a romantic history. The walk finishes at Falconwood Station where there are trains to Charing Cross, Victoria and other places.
The walk is 7 miles and includes some steep steps. It is mainly on solid paths but as we will walk through woodland a pair of boots is reccomended.
