YHP are excited to announce the launch of our documentary series, showcasing the history of African women and Britain's health service

Since 2018, members of the Young Historians Project have been engaged in a groundbreaking research project, to recover the hidden history of continental African women and the British health service in the 20th century. We have interviewed 36 African women health workers, conducted extensive archive research, and worked hard as a team to convert these materials into accessible learning resources, to be utilised by anyone interested in learning more about this important history. During this event we will be screening our first two episodes from our documentary series - A Hidden History: African women and the British health service. The first episode, &#x27;Early Women&#x27;, will explore those African women who were active in Britain&#x27;s health service before the creation of the NHS, and will also highlight some of the first African women to work in the NHS upon its creation in 1948. Our second episode, &#x27;Migration&#x27;, explores the stories of African women who were born on the continent of Africa, and migrated to Britain during the 20th century. This episode traces their motivations for migrating, their feelings upon arrival, and their reflections on adjusting to life in Britain. This event will also feature a Q&amp;A with YHP film makers who produced these two episodes, and some of the interviewees who have been featured.
