YHP are excited to announce the launch of our documentary series, showcasing the history of African women and Britain's health service

Since 2018, members of the Young Historians Project have been engaged in a groundbreaking research project, to recover the hidden history of continental African women and the British health service in the 20th century. We have interviewed 36 African women health workers, conducted extensive archive research, and worked hard as a team to convert these materials into accessible learning resources, to be utilised by anyone interested in learning more about this important history.During this event we will be screening the fifth and sixth episodes from our documentary series - A Hidden History: African women and the British health service. The first episode to be screened during this event is 'Health Career', which will explore the career trajectories of the women health workers we have interviewed, and discuss any challenges they may have faced as African women in the workplace, and how they sought to confront these challenges.The next episode, 'Racism', will present the experiences of racism that the women we interviewed have dealt with throughout their lives, from childhood to the present day. This episode also showcases how these women have worked to combat racism in its many forms.This event will also feature a Q&A with YHP film makers who produced these two episodes, and some of the interviewees who have been featured.
